The exercises involed in creating the lightbot have given me a basic understanding of how to use the software Modeler by Newtek LightWave. This should enable me to create the 3D robotic sidekick I have been asked to make. I need to conceive, deisgn, and effectivly product this sidekick that needs to be fully fleshed out in every area including appearance, function and character, with supporting documents. I have 5 weeks to complete this project.
In order to make the best job of this, I should do this in stages. Through research should be done beforehand which will give me inspiration and allow me to reuse and modify the best ideas in my model. A design pack will also need to be made which will include the correct measurements and proportions- this will enable me to scan the image onto moddeler as a backdrop and using the correct proportions will make things a great deal easier. I will manage the project carefully though each stage of the production process, reviewing my schedule and production log at least once a weeks. By the end of the project, I should have a finished 3D prototype which I can then reflect on according to my original expectations in my evaluation. Tasks 2, 4 and 5 will be crucial in demonstrating my ability to devise my 3D model and taks 6 and 7 wil allow me to show that I can create 3D models following industry practice. My evaluation for task 8 will be a good way of reflecting on how I have devised and created my character concept.
By reguarlly updating and managing my production log, constantly referring to my schedule thoughout the week, and setting myself new targets, I will be able to better manage my project. This corresponds to Unit 13's fourth learning outcome which is to be able to use project management techniques commonly used in the games industry. The process of management I will be using directly reflects the techniques used in the games designs industry, I will try to mirror this which will both enable me to develop new skills and keep my up to date with my project. My evaluation, schefule and production log (As well as blog posts) wil form the evidence of how I have project-managed the assignment. With this in mind, I ought to be able to reflect on my work and know whether or not I have achieved both my own goals and the clients. This will then help me to move onto the next assignment.
