I shot a series of photographs of a model of a pigeon I have from different angles, as well as photographs of real pigeons in town. I was able to get very close and get some useful reference imagery:
I then used my references to produce a quick digital drawing; what could be considered concept art; it is essentially a robotic version of a pigeon, but was too too life-like and organic looking in my opinion. I did however, consider things mentioned in my mind map- taking into consideration that form follows function, and trying not to basically make a metal version of a pigeon, but rather using the animal as inspiration and a base to then manipulate.
I conveniently removed the wings and added some extra more robot looking parts to make the sidekick appear more artificial. The sketches were done digitally, and lines were drawn accross to keep proportions roughly the same. I will be able to use both these, and the more refined drawing above as backdrops when it comes to building the final model.
