Production log
Starting with the head: A simple sphere.
I make the upper and lower beaks by starting with a flat, rectangular polygon and repeatedly beveling until I had achieved the correct shape:
I used the same process for the cere as for the beak, only this time dragging out edges as well as polygons in order to get a more rigid effect.
The eyes were simply a small sphere halved- Although I had to make sure it was facing the correct way as I would later be manipulating it. I put a border around the eye by copying the edges and making polygons from them. To save time, I only created one eye, then simply mirrored it to get the other.
Next, I focused on the neck. To do this, I used the magic bevel tool; starting with a circular polygon and using this tool to extend it while also reducing in size by a set percentage.

These are the neck braces that went around the neck to give it more of a robotic appearance.
The body was just a sphere with a few of the points pulled up and skewed polygons.
The legs were made up of a subdivided tubular primitive, which I then used as a base to further manipulate. I used sphere primitives for the ankles;

The foot was made up of a basic squashed sphere shape for the ball of the foot, with 4 toes attached. The toes were made by used the magic bevel tool mentioned earlier.
Finally, all the elements were combined to produce the finished model:
